PRODUCT: An original design by Welsh artist Jen Delyth (1996) Of all the individual birds species in the written mythology, the raven is perhaps the most complex and interesting. It has a close affinity with the supernatural world, and the Celtic goddess the Badbh and the Morrigan both possess the ability to appear as one or three entities and to shapeshift into raven form. Ravens are birds of omen - used by Irish Druids in Augury - predicting the future by studying the flight of birds. The connection between ravens and oracular utterances may have arisen because of their harsh but distinctive voice. The triple raven - Morrigan alights on Cu Chulainn’s shoulder at his death, to symbolize the passing of his spirit. Ravens occur in the Welsh myths, such as in the second branch of the Mabinogi, the superhuman hero Bran Bendigeidfran - whose name means crow. Ordering
